November might be the best month as it begins with a Halloween candy hangover and ends with the start of the Christmas season. And let's not forget, sandwiched in between the two, the Super Bowl of meals, Thanksgiving! I love everything about the holiday from the morning high school football game to the table setting to the food (oh the food!), but my favorite thing is the fact that eighteen(!!!) years ago I became a mother on a Thanksgiving morning.
I also love the fact that unlike December, there isn't the holiday rush of parties, shopping and such, making it the perfect month to stay in and cozy up with hot cider and book or invite a few friends over for a dinner and game night.
Of course every month has their fashion favorites and November continues the fall layers but colder weather gives us an option to add in a coat too! Accessories wise I'm on the look out for charming clutches to be used for holiday parties and think this is just the one to fit the bill. Gold jewelry is still all the rage but stones are more muted and delicate so as not to clash with all those layers! A pretty dress is always a must and this is the one I'll be wearing at the Thanksgiving table.
Pumpkin is still in constant rotation but apples, cranberries and pears are showing up just as often, roasted alongside pork loins, in salads and as a base for delightful drinks. I am on vegetable duty for Thanksgiving dinner and plan on bringing this salad full of fall flavors. And what goes better with pre-dinner cocktails than cheese! This appetizer marries my favorite food group (cheese!) with a locally grown fall fruit-cranberries! Thanksgiving eve we get together at my parents house and I'll be contributing the dessert. One of my favorite enterntaining cheats are Trader Joes macarons (keep a few boxes in the freezer) and the Whole Foods bulk cookie counter. You can choose from a huge variety of tasty treats and never even have to turn on the oven!
Reading this, this and this while cozied up under this chic, monogrammed(!) blanket. We'll be super busy in December as my daughter dances in her final Nutcracker performances so November is when we'll be seeing the Boston Ballets version of this timeless classic. Of course we'll be watching this sweet favorite and I heard that this Netflix movie was one of the best films of the year. I also just watched this and it is raw, and emotional and beautifully done. And finally we will celebrating the birthdays of these two November babies. I see a lot of birthday cake in my future and I am not complaining.
I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving full of friends, family and of course, pie! I am thankful for every single one of you who supports our small business throughout the year.
